These days health insurance is no laughing matter, although at times efforts to change the system may seem a little bit like a farce.
But a new 30-minute show, filled with eccentric characters and extreme circumstances, finds comedy in the n appear in Upright Citizen’s Brigade’s presentation of Urgent Care, a fast-paced, farcical romp set in a New York City urgent care site.
Matt Gehring, of Montreal’s Just For Laughs and Amazon’s The Tick directs, the show that finds humor close to home – or at least in the urgent care center.
Silverman has appeared in UCB’s Nipsey and Janet Looks at 89 Dicks, while Lindsay Brill appeared in The Old Globe and Hack My Life.
The duo play Janet and Lindsay, “two women in their 30’s who use their local urgent care center as their Cheers,” as well as a crowd of other characters.
“There they struggle with anger issues, expiring health insurance, and the norms of traditional adulthood,” according to the duo. “The themes of acceptance, hope and friendship are universal reminders that no matter who we are or where we come from, our lives are all connected through the shared experience of womanhood.”
Urgent Care will be performed Aug. 10 and 24 at 9:30 p.m. at The Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre (307 W 26th Street, between 8th & 9th Aves.) Tickets are $7.
