The Singers Forum on Friday announced that it is teaming up with 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin for a new program to support playwrights.
The aptly named “Alec Baldwin Fellowships at the Singers Forum” will help playwrights with the development and advancement of original theatrical works. The yearlong program will provide chosen fellows with professional mentorship, fine-pointed dramaturgy, and an individualized workshop process.
The program will culminate in the Fellowship Festival, where each piece will be presented in an industry showcase — the goal being to create four pieces ready for a summer 2013 production.
The Emmy Award-winning Baldwin cut his teeth on New York stages, making his Broadway debut in a 1986 production of Joe Orton’s Loot.
“In this age of digitized movie making, it is our duty to find a way to nurture the next generation of great theatrical storytellers,” Baldwin said in a statement.
Founded in 1978 by Andy Anselmo and John Albert Harris, the Singers Forum is a non-profit vocal-training organization located in Chelsea. Applications for the Alec Baldwin Fellowships are accepted through February 29, 2012. Visit singersforum.org for more information.
